Contract Bridge

Bridge

Beginning Contract Bridge
As our population ages (gracefully), pursuits and interests that previously seemed unexciting are viewed in a different light. There is a shift away from punishing physical stress and toward the refinement and nourishing of the intellect. Bridge combines mental exercise of the reasoning faculties, the short- and long-term memory centers, the planning and collation skills, social interaction techniques, and a host of other mental calisthenics useful in everyday life. For the player with little or no bridge experience. Dan DeVlieg will teach you this most entertaining—and mentally demanding--of team games from its very beginning steps to the more advanced concepts by having you play the game! You will have fun, you will work your brain, you will socially interact, and you will begin to see corollary benefits in other aspects of your life. Join us. Dan deVlieg has been teaching bridge in area continuing education and senior programs for over 10 years and runs bridge games in town.

Beginning Contract Bridge ~ Continued
Once you have been introduced to the fundamentals of bridge (see above), Dan DeVlieg will take you deeper into the complexities of bidding and bidding conventions, of play, of keeping score, of defending, of opening lead philosophy, and the myriad of other techniques born of this fascinating and stimulating game. The great majority of time spent in this class will be at the card table, where you can ask questions, analyze alternative playing and bidding strategies (both offensive and defensive), and have an all-round good time. For graduates of the BEGINNERS BRIDGE class or the bridge player who knows the basics of the game but is not an experienced participant. Dan deVlieg has been teaching bridge in area continuing education and senior programs for over 10 years and runs bridge games in town.

Intermediate Contract Bridge
Once you know how to play bridge, it is time to learn how to play it well! This course is ideal for the person who (1) used to play bridge but has not done so for years and needs to get up-to-date on the latest advances in this forever-evolving game, (2) for the person who has completed the two courses described above, (3) for the person (or partners) who plays bridge but feels somewhat developmentally stalled and needs help getting to the next level of proficiency, or (4) for the moderately experienced social and/or duplicate bridge players. Other than an opening period devoted to the addressing of questions brought in by students, the entire balance of each class will be devoted to bidding and playing situations encountered in randomly dealt or pre-dealt hands. Taught by Dan de Vlieg. Dan deVlieg has been teaching bridge in area continuing education and senior programs for over 10 years and runs bridge games in town.
